How newborn sessions work

THE PRE-CONSULTATION

Before you even book with me, I need to make sure I am the right photographer for you. Everything about your baby is special and I want you to have a perfect newborn session.

We can chat on the phone or use email. The first thing is to make sure I am available for your due date. A few other things we will discuss are the style of a session, colours, props, and outfits. Who will be included in the session? What is the most important thing for you in a newborn session? What outfits should you wear? And so on.

This consultation is the first step, it’s absolutely free with no strings attached.

If you are ready to book, I will ask for a non-refundable deposit to hold your due date. I only take a limited number of sessions per week and your deposit will guarantee that you will get a spot for a session within an ideal 2 week period.  After the baby is born please contact me ASAP to schedule an actual session.

YOUR SESSION

The baby is here and we will book an actual session date within 48 hours of birth. The first 14 days is the best time, ideal age is 5-10 days old. This is the age when your baby is still very sleepy and very small. My sessions are scheduled on weekday mornings only. Sessions are held in my newborn studio in Porters Lake. The studio is designed with newborns in mind. I provide props, outfits for the baby and everything else needed for a session. You can relax.

Sessions last between 1-2 hours depending on the baby. Your baby’s comfort is the most important thing during a newborn session. We take time for feedings, changes and cuddles. For my sessions, babies are swaddled to make sure they are comfortable and calm.

AFTER SESSION

I will deliver your final gallery within 14 business days( 20 business days in the busy season Sep-Dec). Images will be delivered according to your session package. All final images are high-resolution and fully edited with no watermarks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should you choose me?

Newborn sessions are an investment. Choosing photographer can be overwhelming. I am here to help! First thing you should do is to check out my portfolio. If you like what you see, you will like results from your session. I have specific style, which I achieve by using muted colours, variety of simple props and simple natural posing. My goal is to make your baby look comfy cozy, like a baby should be. I do not do naked poses and I do not pose babies in the ways that look unnatural. I swaddle babies for most of my sessions and babies absolutely love it. I first hand know how exhausting it is to have a newborn and I promise you that I will make this whole process as simple for you as possible.

Do I need a newborn session?

If you are ever going to spend any money on professional photography it should be a newborn session. Sadly I didn’t start doing newborn photography when my daughter was born and due to complications and long recovery, it didn’t even cross my mind to get any decent images of her done by a professional. I am heartbroken every time I get to see other people’s amazing newborn images, but not have my own. So I guess it is my little mission in life to make sure as many parents as possible book newborn sessions and have this memory. The first few weeks with your newborn baby are not easy, especially if it is your first. Let me tell you that no amount of education, reading and practicing will get you ready for this little bundle of joy. It will hit you hard and you going to fall in love forever.

What is your style?

Every newborn photographer has a different unique style. When choosing the right photographer the best way to see if you like the photographer’s work is to take a look at portfolio. If you like images that you see it’s a good sign that you will also like images from your session.

My style is simple and timeless. I stay away from excessive posing and a large number of props. My goal is for you to have the best images possible that will look amazing as a wall art piece and will be a treasured family heirloom.

Should I book before baby arrives?

Yes, it is a best way to guarantee your spot. Plus last thing you want to do after having a baby is to look for a photographer.

I take a very limited amount of newborn sessions per month and all of my pre-booked sessions will take a priority over new bookings.

Is my baby safe?

My number one priority during a session is your baby’s comfort. I practice safe natural posing for my sessions. Everything I do during session is built around baby’s safety. Parents can be asked to assist with certain poses or just to sit close and help out by keeping a hand on the baby.

Everything in studio gets cleaned and washed after every session.

Should I choose in studio or lifestyle at home session?

Both options are great! In studio offers more pro look and wide variety of props and outfits. Studio is set up for newborn photography,so all you have to do is show up. Lifestyle at home session is great because you don’t even have to leave your house! it is a relaxed session and focuses on natural moments of your baby’s day with very limited posing.

Here is a blog post to check out if you are still deciding.Lifestyle session vs posed newborn session.

Few things to know about newborn session.

First of all newborn sessions take up to 2 hours(sometimes longer , which totally depends on baby). I cannot say it enough, but baby’s comfort is my number one priority. We will take breaks for feeding, changes, cuddling and making sure your baby is happy. I will do my best to rock your little one to sleep and get cozy slightly posed images. I got a few tricks up my sleeve and most babies will fall asleep. If your baby decides to stay awake, but happy, I take awake shots (secretly I love awake shots the most). Bring a snack and relax for a few hours. Some poses might require parent help, but for the most part, you are welcome to take a nap on the couch.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your session scheduled time.  I understand that getting out of the house with a newborn is tough. Please prepare to leave early so we can start the session on time. The late grace period is 15 minutes, after that, a late fee ($25) will apply. After 30 minutes your session will be cancelled and you will require a new deposit to schedule another session.

I will have your due date in my calendar and make sure there is enough room to schedule session between 4-15 days since birth. Best age for newborn session is 5-10 days old. Contact me asap after birth or make sure someone does to book your appointment.

Studio will be kept very warm to make sure baby is comfortable. Make sure to dress for that. If you are going to be in the session (which I highly recommend) please wear black/white or neutral coloured clothing and coordinate with your partner/children.

Please bring formula/pumped milk, diapers, pacifier ( a must even if your baby doesn’t take one), snack for yourself. Make sure you leave yourself enough time if session runs a bit longer.

If you wish to include any special items in the session let me know in advance so I can plan for it.

Finally I know this is a lot to take in, but I want this session to be perfect and being ready for it is a half way to success. Please contact me for no obligation phone chat so I can answer any questions you might have.
